Registration under Employees’ Provident Fund is mandatory for an entity if such entity has 20 or more employees at any point in time. An entity can also take registration on a voluntary basis if it has less than 20 employees. What is the contribution rate under PF (in case of compulsory registration)?

Employee’s Contribution: 12% of Basic Salary and Dearness Allowances (DA).

Employer’s Contribution: 12% of Basic Salary and Dearness Allowances (DA), subject to maximum 15,000 of amount on which contribution calculated.

Employee Direct Linked Insurance (EDLI): 0.5% of Basic Salary and Dearness Allowances (DA), employer is liable for the contribution of EDLI.

Administrative Charges: 0.5% of Basic Salary and Dearness Allowances (DA) and Rs. 500 whichever is higher, the employer is liable for the contribution of EDLI.

  • Scanned Copy of PAN Card of Proprietor / Partners of Firm / Directors of Company / Secretary or Chief Executive of Society / Karta of HUF (as the case may be).
  • Scanned Copy of Aadhar Card of Proprietor / Partners of Firm / Directors of Company / Secretary or Chief Executive of Trust / Karta of HUF (as the case may be).
  • Passport Size photos of Proprietor / Partners of Firm / Directors of Company Secretary or Chief Executive of Trust / Karta of HUF (as the case may be).
  • Scanned Copy of PAN Card of Firm / Company / Society / Trust / HUF (if the applicant is Firm or Company or Society or Trust or HUF).
  • Sale Deed / Convenance Deed / Rent Agreement (if business place on rent) as address proof of place of business.
  • Utility Bill i.e., Electricity Bill / Property Tax Receipt / Water Bill (anyone) as proof of ownership of the place.
  • Constitution of Business i.e., Partnership Deed / Certificate of Incorporation and Agreement of LLP / MOA & AOA and Certificate of Incorporation of Company / Registration Certificate of the Society / Copy of the Trust Deed (as the case me be).
  • Area of business activities.
  • Contact Details (mobile number and email ID of Proprietor / Partners / Directors / Secretary or Chief Executive of Society / Karta of HUF (as the case me be).
  • Contact details of business / Firm / LLP / LLP / Company / Society / HUF.
  • Number of workers employed.
  • Signature specimen of business owner.
  • Details of current salary and wages of employees and workers.

Note: Mobile number should be linked with Aadhar Card to authenticate the submission of application in case of Proprietorship/Individual employer. If the mobile number is not linked with Aadhar Card then the authentication process will do through DSC. In the case of an employer other than Proprietorship/Individual, DSC is mandatory.

How many days it takes to complete the process of PF Registration?

Department usually takes 5 to 7 working days (excluding Saturday, Sunday, and Gazetted holidays), its subject to the processing of the application by the department.

Ans. PF registration is valid forever unless the employer surrenders the PF registration in case of cessation of business.

Ans. No, renewal of PF registration is not required once the PF department allots the PF code.
